"Telekom Romania invites Discovery to discuss the creation of an extra option or an additional Discovery-Eurosport package, for which each customer can choose. Also, Telekom Romania publicly announces that the rates that Discovery will apply for this extra option or for the extra package will not generate any profit or technical commission for the company – which means that Telekom will not add any margin to these rates. Thus, each leu resulting from this tariff will go directly to Discovery. This is a public call to reach an agreement to the full benefit of our customers and of all Romanians accidentally exposed to the unfair public campaign of Discovery, by which the company wrongly blamed Telekom Romania, without assuming its share of responsibility for the result of the negotiations ”, is shown in an open letter of Telekom Romania, published on Friday.
According to the quoted source, the principle "the customer at the center of concerns" has always been the supreme objective of delivering what the Romanians want, and regarding the invitation, Telekom is "fully confident that Discovery will respond positively".
"Telekom Romania has always believed in the principle of 'the customer at the center of concerns', which reflects the supreme objective of delivering what the Romanians want (…) Given the relevant position occupied by Telekom on the Romanian communications market and taking into account the passionate minority represented by the customers who watch these TV channels and who have expressed their wish to continue to watch them, the company Telekom Romania is open to full reconciliation with Discovery Networks. And, in order to demonstrate a deep concern for customer preferences and satisfaction, Telekom Romania is fully confident that Discovery will respond positively to this invitation, to meet customer requirements and take advantage of the opportunity offered to reintroduce TV channels to the grid. – two companies from the top TV service providers in Romania, whose prices are now among the lowest in the market ”, say the telecom operator.
Telekom declined an agreement
At the end of last year, Discovery Romania published on the official Facebook page a point of view regarding the situation with Telekom Romania, claiming that "despite our investments in sports content and rights, the operator refused a new agreement".
"We are sorry to inform you that as of January 1, the entire Discovery portfolio, made up of channels such as Eurosport 1, Eurosport 2, Discovery Channel, TLC and Travel Channel, will no longer be available to you. In recent months, we have made every effort to conclude a new agreement with Telekom, but unfortunately, despite our investments in content and sports rights, the operator has refused a new agreement.
This means that you will no longer have access to the most beloved Eurosport competitions, including the Premier League, FA Cup, ATP Circuit, the four Grand Slam tournaments (including the Australian Open), the Summer Olympics or our entertainment programs. inspired by reality, such as the Two Survival Test, Bear Grylls Island, Gold Rush, Cars on Discovery Channel, Top Dermatology (Dr. Pimple Popper), King of Confectioners, Perfect Dress on TLC, or Bizarre Foods with Andrew Zimmern and Mysteries at the Museum on the Travel Channel, as well as all the shows on the other channels in our portfolio (Animal Planet, ID, Discovery Science, Discovery Showcase, DTX, Food Network).
We remain open to negotiations in good faith with Telekom, to bring you back your favorite channels and programs (…) Our channels are still available to all other operators – AKTA, Digi, Orange, UPC ”, notes Discovery Romania.
